University of Ljubljana
The University of Ljubljana is the oldest and largest higher education and scientific research institution in Slovenia.
Since its foundation in 1919, the University has been an important pillar of Slovenian society and the development of Slovenian professional and scientific terminology.
Today, the University of Ljubljana is the central and largest educational institution, attended by almost 40,000 students and employing more than 6,000 professors, researchers, assistants, and professional and administrative staff in 23 faculties and 3 art academies. Students can choose from hundreds of study programs, which are organized according to the guidelines of the Bologna Declaration. The number of joint programs aimed at deepening internationalization and closer cooperation with foreign educational institutions is also increasing. In this way, the University promotes interdisciplinarity and enables greater transfer of professors and students in an international university environment.
The University of Ljubljana is the central research institution in Slovenia with up to 30% of all registered researchers (according to the SICRIS database). It is aware of the usefulness of knowledge and the acquisition of its own financial resources and cooperates with companies and service organizations in the public and private sectors, with state authorities, local communities and civil society. Through cooperation, it promotes the use of its research achievements and contributes to social development.
Since the academic year 2017/18, the University of Ljubljana is headed by the Rector Prof. Dr. Gregor Majdič.
