1st Cycle Academic Study Programme in MECHANICAL ENGINEERING - Research and Development Program

Duration: 3 Years
Number of ECTS: 180
Graduate’s professional degree: diplomirani inženir strojništva (UN) / diplomirana inženirka strojništva (UN), respectively abbreviated to dipl. inž. str. (UN) after first and last name.

The Fundamental Programme Objectives and General Competencies

  • To provide graduates quality knowledge,  based on solid fundamental skills  of knowledge and understanding  a wide range of mechanical engineering topics, thus providing the graduates the adequate competences skills for appropriate employability,  in the case of completion of the study. When they decide to pursue further studies, the acquired knowledge will be an adequate basis for studying on the postgraduate research cycle.
  • To develop the ability for critical analysis and synthesis, and to exercise professional engineering responsibility.
  • With acquired knowledge from a wide range field of mechanical engineering, comparable with similar study program in Europe, the graduate of certain program will be capable of linking up  different interdisciplinary fields.

The Study Programme is the same for all students (no specified direction).

Admission requirements and selection criteria in case of restricted enrollment

Admission requirements

1st Cycle Academic Study Programme in Mechanical Engineering - Research and Development Programme can be entered by anyone who has: 

a) the matura certificate;

b) the vocational matura certificate obtained in one of the four-year high school programs (mechanical engineer technician, automotive service technician, electrical engineer, civil engineer technician, chemical engineer technician, marine engineering technician, metallurgy technician, mechatronics technician, computer technician, wood technician, communication electronics technician) and general matura examination from the subject Mathematics. The candidate may not choose Mathematics at the vocational matura;

c) the final examination certificate obtained in any of the four-year high school programs prior to 1 June 1995.

Selection criteria in case of restricted enrolment

In case of admission restriction, the applicants referred to in point a) will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • overall achievement in the general matura (30 % of points),
  • overall achievement in the 3rd and 4th years of secondary school (30 % of points),
  • success in the subject Mathematics at the general matura (20 % of points),
  • success in the subject Physics or Mechanics at the general matura (20 % of points).  

For the candidates referred to in point b):

  • overall achievement in the vocational matura (30 % of points),
  • overall achievement in the 3rd and 4th years of secondary school (30 % of points),
  • success in the subject Mathematics at the general matura (20 % of points),
  • success in mechanical engineering or automotive mechatronics or electrical engineering or plant engineering or chemistry or marine engineering or metallurgy or mechatronics or information technology or woodworking or electronic communications at the vocational matura (20 % of points).

For the candidates referred to in point c):

  • overall achievement in the final examination (30 % of points),
  • overall achievement in the 3rd and 4th years of secondary school (30 % of points),
  • success in Mathematics in the final examination or in the 4th year of secondary school if the candidate did not take Mathematics in the final examination (20 % of points),
  • success in Physics, Mechanics or Mechanical Engineering in the final examination or in the 4th year of secondary school if the candidate did not take the subjects in the final examination (20 % of points).

  • 20 (candidates of non EU countries)
  • 10 (Slovenians without Slovenian citizenship)

Terms for advancement

Promotion Requirements from the first year to second year of Study Programme:

Students can advance second year until the end of study year, when they have fulfilled all the requirements, determined by the curriculum of the current academic year and have accumulated minimum of 48 ECTS credits.

Promotion Requirements from second year to third year of Study Programme:

Students can advance to third year, when they have fulfilled all the requirements, determined by the curriculum of second  year and have accumulated minimum of 60 ECTS credits and all the requirements, determined by the curriculum of first year and have accumulated minimum of 48 ECTS credits.
