The Fundamental Program Objectives and General Competencies

The program TRIBOS is a joint program of the consortium of four partner  European universities: The key goal of the TRIBOS Joint Master Program is to provide the students advanced training program in the field of tribology, tribological surfaces and lubrication as well as related applications in engineering. TRIBOS combines the expertise of the participating four leading European universities in the field of tribology. The curriculum is designed to give graduates the all necessary knowledge and skills for a proper understanding of the field of tribology, lubricants and surfaces, as well as educates them in the direction of the practical application of acquired knowledge to solve real engineering problems, either individually or in a  research group.

Structure of the Study Programme

TRIBOS Program is fundamentally international (a two year Erasmus Mundus master program of total 120 ECTS), based on the mobility of students and teachers, that is a basic characteristic of this Program. Students begin studies (first semester) in England (UnivLeeds), second semester is carried out in Slovenia, in Ljubljana. In the first year students can accomplish practice in a supportive partner or a company or institution, where they are allowed to regulate apprenticeship. The second year of study, students decide whether they wish to continue their studies with an emphasis on lubrication or by focusing on the surface. Given the choice, as the second year students go on university partner of LTU or UC. The third semester brings 30 ECTS. The fourth semester is dedicated to project work and writing a master's thesis related to the area of choice (30 ECTS).

Joint Master Program in Tribology of Surfaces and Interfaces is a two year Erasmus Mundus master programme of total 120 ECTS. It is divided into four semesters during two years (from the 1st of September 20xx to the 30th of August 20xx+2), with a chance of internship with one of several groups and renown supporting and associated partners.

Year 1: Comon Program for all directions.
Year 2: The program is divided into two directions:
     • Specialization in surface-oriented topics
     • Specialization in lubricating oriented topics

Transfers among Study Programms

Termination of student's education  in the present enrolled Study Program and continuation of studies in the Study Program of the second level - Joint European Master on Tribology of Surfaces and Interfaces (TRIBOS) is accounted  for the transfer among study programs in which the part or all the students obligations recognised as accomplished. It should be noted that transfers are possible only among Study Programs, which will at the completion of the study ensure obtaining comparable competences. Applications for transfer in to overall Study Program of the second level - Joint European Master on Tribology of Surfaces and Interfaces (TRIBOS) will be individually considered by the Commission for postgraduate studies, in accordance with Article 181 to 189 of  the Statutes of University of Ljubljana and the Rules of Faculty Of Mechanical Engineering on the conditions of the transfer among programs. In accordance with the criteria for transfers among study programs, the candidate may be included in the Study Program of the second level - Joint European Master on Tribology of Surfaces and Interfaces (TRIBOS), so far as he is recognized at least half of the study obligations ECTS credit from first level Study Program, relating to the mandatory courses  on second level of the Joint European Master on Tribology of Surfaces and Interfaces (TRIBOS). If the candidate, in the process of recognition, due to the transfer is recognized at least as many, and those credits (ETCS), which are a condition for enrollment in second year the Joint European Master on Tribology of Surfaces and Interfaces (TRIBOS), the candidate shall be allowed entry into the second year of Joint European Master on Tribology of Surfaces and Interfaces (TRIBOS).
